So, Black Friday Week at Amazon starts tomorrow through Black Friday next week. I know, I know - but, it is a good time to stock up on anything you may need for Thanksgiving which is just next week. What!?!
To cut through some of the noise for you, Gourmand, here are some breadcrumbs to navigate the sale starting tomorrow, and some areas to look for.
For those new to Amazon deals, you MUST keep an eye out on the timer associated with the item you are choosing, even if it is IN your cart. Even the last update I had, I forget some things in my cart and, sure enough, the next day when I remembered - all of the prices reverted to normal. So, healthy disclaimer, prices in Amazon are ethereal and, if you’re looking to save, requires vigilance…possibly lack of sleep.
That said, you can work ahead - here’s Tip #1:
Build a list just for cooking - then add items you have an eye on and put them in this list.
When it comes time for deals to hit that item, if you time it correctly, you may be able to get it at the price you want.
Tip #2: You can also use https://www.amazon.com/events/dealalerts to stay on top of it.
Technology trains us like monkeys these days - so a lot of time it does require us to log in a few times a day or week (honestly, whatever you’re comfortable with) to check in.
In the end, it is worth the savings…it can add up.
Tip #3: You can also set-up Purchase Reminders for those staple items, in the case of Gourmands, pantry items, to regularly order since you’ll run out every 60 to 90 days for us active cooks.
Tip #4: unless you need it right away, you should hold on any of your items until it is on sale - in our experience, it eventually will.
Tip #5: check your credits and apply them for maximum effect. For example, there was something in my cart (that was already discounted), but I never wanted to pay that amount - I was holding a few dollars in credit then applied them. I got the item for exactly what I wanted to pay.
Tip #6: double-check, then double-check again, the item you want in the time frame of delivery - I think we’ve all learned this lesson the hard way…and probably multiple times. Check it before Check-Out.
Ok - on to Black Friday Week, so all below are listed ‘as is as of writing’ - they are just ideas to look out for. If I happen across a pre-deal, I’m listing it as an example. Happy hunting!
CONTAINERS
Containers - never pay full price for something meant to be disposable or temporal - keep an eye out. They should also delivery in time for Thanksgiving.
Check the count carefully - they typically count out both the lids and container in the 'full' count.
Example - World Bazaar Leftover Containers
COOKWARE SETS
Looking around my kitchen the other day, Thanksgiving and the holidays in general are a great time to make a decision to refresh those years-old cooking sets. The price above was a pre-sale deal, and I expect more of these over the next week.
Another example - am I espousing stainless steel? Meh. Whatever one can afford - you dot to do what you got to do.
HANDHELD IMMERSION BLENDER
If your a regular at ASG you know we love our immersion blender - they work so well in a pitch and save time. This pre-deal was -25% off, I think, with patience and luck, you should find one in the $25 range.
Example - Immersion Handheld Variable
GLASSWARE CONTAINER SET
For more permanent container sets, you can’t beat glass. I was remarking to myself just last week, “Self, these glass containers are great - safe to warm food up, easy to clean.” I couldn’t agree with myself more.
Another example.
BLENDERS
Blenders are always a hard sale - at least for me. They range to very high in price, so hard to justify it at times - but they are essential part of the kitchen. I say find the one that gives you the best features at the price point you are comfortable with.
Example - Ninja SS401 Processing Extractor
AIR FRYER / TOASTER OVEN
Another one of those kitchen gadgets that is sometimes hard to justify, either in price or space, but once you have one, the more you realize how much energy and time it will save you. Especially as warming up food is specific to the dish, having access to one will having you wishing you had one before.
FAT SEPARATOR / SMALLER GADGETS
Ok - have to admit I just bought this at that pre-sale price. They kept hammering me with it and I know it’ll help someone like me - I try to hoard fat because it saves so much dang money.
Example - Separator Measuring Vondior
But not only the fat separator here, but think of other gadgets you may need for the holidays.
AMAZON GADGETS
Every special Amazon sale comes with it (usually) 50% of these items. For those Gourmands that have their hands full in the kitchen - there’s nothing more valuable than something that can (a) set a timer, (b) set a timed alarm or other reminder, (c) play music. Really look at this Hub…
Example - Echo Amazon Basics Smart Color Hub
PANTRY / FOOD GIFT ITEMS
Good luck with this one, because it's not as robust as I would like it to be - but you can find the occasional pantry or food premium item on sale - it is consistent enough for me to check Amazon first, before I go hit the store (which I invariably do anyway - see our Shorts channel)
